A CYCLONE FREDDY VICTIM AYIDA JAILOSI BLESSED WITH A NEW HOUSE

14TH NOVEMBER, 2024

GRAZIE CLAUDIO BESTETTI

In a testament to the power of compassion and global solidarity, Fr. Joseph Kimu’s friends from Italy recently brought new hope to Ayida Jailosi, an elderly woman in Mbulukuta village, under the jurisdiction of Senior Chief Chimwala. This touching act came in response to the devastation left by Cyclone Freddy, which had wreaked havoc in the region and left many families without shelter. Among those affected with the Cyclone was an 80-year-old Ayida Jailosi, who lost her home to the storm’s unforgiving power.

Moved by the profound need and with the desire to honor the memory of their beloved friend Claudio Bestetti from Italy, Fr. Kimu’s Italian friends took it upon themselves to build a new house for Ayida. This project was not just a physical structure, but a symbol of resilience, love, and the enduring spirit of humanity that transcends borders.

AYIDA'S NEW HOUSE

On November 14, 2024, the new home stood proudly completed, a beacon of hope amid the recovery efforts in the community. The dedication of Fr. Kimu’s Italian friends illustrated the enduring impact of kindness and the meaningful connections that can arise between communities, no matter the distance.

AYIDA JAILOSI

The story of rebuilding this home serves as a reminder that acts of love and solidarity continue to make a difference, especially when people come together for the most vulnerable among them. Ayida Jailosi’s new house, built in loving memory of Claudio Bestetti, will not only shelter her but also stand as a lasting tribute to a friendship that reached across continents to make a difference.

ST. JOHN GIRLS' SECONDARY SCHOOL WILDLIFE CLUB VISIT LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK

9TH NOVEMBER, 2024

LIWONDE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE

on Saturday, the 9th November, 2024 St. John Girls’ Secondary School Wildlife Club embarked on an exciting adventure to Liwonde National Park! This trip was not just an ordinary visit but a journey filled with discovery, learning, and awe as our students explored the natural beauty and wildlife diversity that Malawi’s premier national park has to offer.

Upon arrival, the girls were greeted by the vast landscape, rich with dense vegetation and the soothing sounds of nature. The park rangers warmly welcomed the club and shared valuable insights into the importance of wildlife conservation and the efforts undertaken to protect endangered species. The students were eager to learn and asked thoughtful questions about the delicate balance between human activities and wildlife preservation.

The highlight of the day was the guided safari, where the club members had the chance to observe majestic elephants, graceful antelopes, and even the stealthy crocodiles basking by the Shire River. The excitement reached its peak when they spotted a herd of zebras grazing in the distance and a pod of hippos submerging and resurfacing with playful splashes.

In addition to wildlife sightings, the girls explored how the park contributes to eco-tourism and supports local communities. They gained firsthand experience in understanding how conservation efforts can positively impact both the environment and society.

This field trip not only deepened the girls’ appreciation for wildlife and conservation but also reinforced the school’s commitment to fostering integral education. It was a day full of wonder, learning, and inspiration—one that our wildlife club will cherish and carry forward in their studies and future projects.

We are proud of our wildlife club for representing St. John Girls’ Secondary School with enthusiasm and curiosity. Special thanks to the staff and guides at Liwonde National Park for making this experience unforgettable!

On May 19, 2024, a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of 28 students from St. John Girls' Primary and Secondary Schools was celebrated with joy and reverence. These students received their Catholic sacraments in a ceremony that saw some of them baptized, others receiving their First Holy Communion, and several being confirmed. The event was presided over by the Vicar General of Mangochi Diocese, Father David Mambo, and took place at St. John Catholic Church, which is under Kausi Parish.

Father Mambo praised St. John Integral Education Centre for its dual commitment to academic excellence and spiritual development. He emphasized that the school's motto, "Integral Education for Girls," reflects its dedication not only to the intellectual growth of its students but also to their spiritual nourishment. This holistic approach to education aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are grounded in their faith.

The ceremony was a collaborative effort between various members of the church and school community. Rev. Father Augustine Friday, the parish priest of Kausi Parish, attended the event to witness and support the students on this memorable day. The presence of parents, who celebrated the spiritual growth of their children, added a personal and emotional dimension to the event.

A special moment during the ceremony was when Rev. Father Joseph Kimu, the director of St. John Integral Education Centre, presented commemorative gifts to the students who had received their sacraments. These gifts symbolized the significance of the day and served as a reminder of the students' commitment to their faith as they continue their educational journey.

The day was filled with gratitude and reflection, marking a pivotal point in the students' lives. It reinforced the school's mission of fostering an environment where both education and spirituality are given paramount importance. The event also highlighted the close-knit community of St. John’s, where educators, religious leaders, and families work together to support the holistic development of the students.

NAPINI VILLAGE BLESSED WITH A NEW BOREHOLE

23rd April, 2024

In the heart of Napini village, nestled amid rolling hills and lush greenery, a remarkable event unfolded on the 23rd of April, 2024. It was a day etched in the collective memory of the villagers, a day marked by joy, gratitude, and newfound hope.

The occasion? The inauguration of a new borehole, a lifeline gifted to Napini by the benevolent hand of Cesare Ariotti, a figure revered for his generosity and compassion. It was a testament to the power of community and the transformative impact of one individual's selfless act.

Father Joseph Kimu, a pillar of strength and guidance in Napini, stood proudly beside the gleaming borehole, a symbol of progress and promise. The villagers gathered around, their faces alight with anticipation and wonder, as water gushed forth from the depths below.

For generations, the people of Napini had relied on precarious sources of water, enduring the uncertainty of rainy rivers and perilous wells on the riverbanks. The constant struggle for clean, safe water had been a burden borne by young and old alike, a burden that weighed heavily on their daily lives.

But now, as they watched the clear, cool water flow freely from the borehole, a wave of relief washed over them. No longer would they have to fear the drying up of rivers or the contamination of their drinking water by animals. No longer would they have to risk their health and safety in search of a basic necessity.

Tears of gratitude mingled with smiles of joy as the villagers approached the borehole, cups and containers in hand, eager to quench their thirst with water that was pure and abundant. Children splashed and played, their laughter echoing through the village, while elders offered prayers of thanks for this newfound blessing.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the village, the people of Napini came together in celebration. They danced beneath the stars, their voices raised in song, honoring Cesare Ariotti and Father Joseph Kimu for their kindness and compassion.

And as they retired to their homes that night, hearts full and spirits lifted, the people of Napini knew that their lives would never be the same. For in the depths of a borehole, they had found more than just water – they had found hope, resilience, and the enduring power of community.

In the heart of Senior Chief Chimwala in Mangochi, Malawi, Rev. Father Joseph Kimu stands as a beacon of hope and compassion for the needy. With a plethora of projects dedicated to assisting the less fortunate, Father Kimu's benevolent efforts have left an indelible mark on the community.

Among his many initiatives, one project stands out prominently: the rehabilitation and rebuilding of homes for those devastated by Cyclone Freddy in 2023. This natural disaster wreaked havoc on the region, leaving countless families homeless and destitute. However, Father Kimu, with the support of generous benefactors from Italy, embarked on a mission to provide shelter and solace to the cyclone's victims.

Yesterday marked a significant milestone in Father Kimu's humanitarian endeavors as the community gathered to inaugurate and hand over a newly constructed home to one of the cyclone's victims. With heartfelt speeches and expressions of gratitude, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of renewal and hope.

The recipient of this newfound sanctuary, a resilient individual whose life was upended by Cyclone Freddy, stood amidst the crowd, overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude. As the keys to the new home were ceremoniously handed over, tears of joy and relief flowed freely, encapsulating the profound impact of Father Kimu's compassion and the unwavering support of his benefactors.

In the wake of tragedy, Father Kimu's unwavering dedication to serving the vulnerable serves as a shining example of the power of kindness and solidarity. With each new home built, lives are rebuilt, and hope is restored, reaffirming the timeless adage that love and compassion know no bounds.
