WHO WE ARE

REV. FR. JOSEPH KIMU - THE DIRECTOR

OUR HISTORY

Rev. Fr. Joseph Kimu is a diocesan priest from the diocese of Mangochi in Malawi. Since his ordination to the priesthood on 27th July 1985 to date, he has always been struck by the low rate of literacy and poverty of the people of the area where we are operating. The majority of men and women, boys and girls of the 25 villages that benefit from the different projects we have been able to start hardly know how to read and write. They mainly belong to the Yao tribe whose people historically never took interest in sending their children to school. Partly because they live along the lake and find it easier and profitable to go fishing than to go to school.

Fr. Joseph Kimu says that he once read the following  words on a notice board of a Church in Italy and they left an indelible mark in his heart.

Education is a fight against hunger because it teaches to work
Education is a fight against disease because it teaches hygiene and prevention
Education is a fight against injustice because it enlightens the conscience

Culturally, Mangochi district is predominantly Yao by tribe. Generally the Yao people embrace negative cultural practices which lead to early withdrawal of girls from school and subsequently engage in early marriages, exposing them to HIV/AIDS, and early child pregnancies and childbearing that disrupt them from proceeding with their education.

WE NEED YOU AND YOUR HELP SO THAT WE CAN HELP THEM

It’s impossible to help people without people helping others. We always need generous people who love to help.

Acts 20:35 …….“it is more blessed to give than to receive.”
